People are complaining about how the algorithm is creating problems. How it’s accelerating depression. How it’s dividing people. How it’s propelling negativity, and loneliness.

I have some bad news. It’s actually you.

The algorithm isn’t content. It’s a reflection on what you pay attention to. The algorithm’s goal is to give you something that will keep you watching.

Look, it’s like an empty garden, if you plant weeds, they’re going to multiply. Paying attention to dumb shit online plants weeds in your algorithm.

Pull the weeds and plant some flowers. Change who you follow. Click that button that says “show me less of this”. Like, comment, and engage with the content you want to see more of. Stop arguing with trolls.
