The world is changing, rapidly. And I think it’s entrepreneurs and leaders, people like you, who will create the systems that will sustain the future, instead of just giving us fancier stuff.

So much about business and society is broken. But instead of publishing stories about the negatives, we can do something about it. We are doing something about it. So let’s talk about it. Let’s share stories, and learn from people who are already doing amazing work that impacts people and the planet.

A few years ago, while I was in university, an instructor shared a link to a video with me after I connected with her on LinkedIn. I didn’t really know what to expect, but it sounded fairly interesting. Had something about a B Corporation in the title, which I had no idea what it was.

I clicked the link, and sat there amazed as they explained the story of a Vancouver meat shop, which on top of their normal business, was selling tokens that customers could give to the homeless, that they could then trade for a meal. It was a unique way to fight the concern people have of giving money to homeless individuals for fear of them using it on drugs and alcohol.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this was the seed of a new found passion: Seeing the business world through a lens of social purpose. These are organizations that care about people, and the planet, instead of just profit.

That’s exactly what this podcast is about. Sharing and learning from innovative people and organizations doing amazing work for people and the planet.

Through interviews with social entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and change makers, I want to dive into important initiatives and business models that are making a real difference. There are so many ideas, but these are people that have seen a social or environmental problem, and taken it upon themselves to tackle it head on, to find a solution.

This community is on fire, it’s growing, and if we can accelerate it so mission-driven people become the leaders, become the majority, the immense amount of change that can happen will be amazing. We will begin to solve problems at the root, instead of just creating patches and cleanup initiatives.

I created this podcast to expose people to new ways of thinking about business and work, to inspire people to start or work with social enterprises, and give you advice from people who are already doing it.

If this is new to you, I hope you’ll join us in exploring these different impact areas, and maybe it will show you how to start something, or change something. And if you’re already completely in this, thank you for what you’re doing. Either way, I hope you’ll stick around, subscribe to the podcast and contribute to the conversation.

Collaboration is essential to this movement, so remember: make change, together.
