Why Personal Development is Essential to Making Impact

The thing I love most about entrepreneurship is that it forces you to improve yourself to be successful. And still, some people don’t.

And unfortunately, if you’re taking on social entrepreneurship, or any type of change initiative, YOU are the only one standing in the way of it happening.

I wrote an article about relaxing into success that dives into this concept, but the point I’m making in this article is that denying that you need to work on yourself (your mind, your fears, your confidence, and your happiness) will stop your business growth.

We all have our hangups, maybe you’re afraid of public speaking or sales, maybe you’re incredibly disorganized, maybe you don’t believe you’re worth much and aren’t making enough money. Heck, maybe you haven’t even started yet!

By diving into leaders like Tony Robbins, Ed Mylett, Tom Bilyeu, and many others over the years, I now know that I must become the type of person who will succeed.

It’s not about more effort or doing it longer. It’s not even about how good you are at your craft. Who you believe you are will dictate what you do, which will dictate your success. Notice I didn’t say how much you do will dictate your success.

It’s so easy for social entrepreneurs to believe we deserve to succeed because our intentions are good, because the world needs the work we’re doing. But the type of person you are now got you to where you are. If you want to blow that out of the water, make 10 times the impact, you need to become the person that will do that.

This is why personal development is so essential to social entrepreneurs and change makers, and it’s a lifelong process, not a quick fix.
